Ethical Principles and Publication Policy
The editorial board of Advances in Medical Physics and Applied Sciences accepts and abides by the principles of the International Council of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), the Council of Science Editors (CSE), the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the National Library of Medicine (NLM), the World Medical Association (WMA), and the European Association of Science Editors (EASE).
According to the journal policy, all research protocols must be approved by an ethics committee in accordance with the international agreements in accordance with the WMA Declaration of Helsinki - Ethical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Subjects (last updated: October 2013, Fortaleza). All research studies must be supported by the following documents in accordance with the specified regulations.
- “Guide for the care and use of laboratory animals (8th edition, 2011)”
- “International Guiding Principles for Biomedical Research Involving Animals (2012)”
It should be remembered that if the written documents are not submitted, the article will be rejected. If the submitted article does not contain ethics committee approval, it will be evaluated according to COPE’s guidelines. If the study requires ethics approval, the review process will continue by requesting the authors to provide this approval. Articles will be rejected if they do not receive ethics approval and the relevant institutions will be informed about the need for ethics committee approval in their country, if necessary. The necessary ethics approval must be obtained for the article to proceed to further review.
Studies in Humans and Animals
If a study involves human experimentation, the author must ensure that the study involves humans in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. Manuscripts must follow the recommendations for conducting, reporting, organizing, and publishing scientific studies in medical journals. They should attempt to include factors such as sex, age, and ethnicity, as stated in the recommendations. It is important to use the terms “sex” and “gender” correctly.
The author must ensure that a statement is included confirming that all steps of the manuscript were performed in accordance with relevant laws and institutional guidelines and were approved by the appropriate institutional committees. The dates and reference numbers of any ethical approvals obtained should also be included in this statement. Authors must also state that informed consent for experiments involving human subjects has been verified in the manuscript. The privacy rights of human subjects should always be respected.
Informed Consent and Patient Information
Informed consent must be obtained for studies involving patients, volunteers, or organ/tissue donors, and this consent must be documented in writing. Authors must obtain appropriate approvals, permissions, and releases when using case details, personal information, or images of patients and other individuals. Written permissions from the author should be retained, but copies should not be provided to the journal. Only in rare cases (e.g., if a legal issue arises) should the author provide copies of the approvals or evidence that such approvals have been obtained, if specifically requested by the journal.
Personal information about any patient, whether in any part of the article or in supplementary material (including images and videos), should be removed without the author's written permission from the patient (or, where appropriate, the next of kin).
